The long sleep of Blam
I have decided to make it official (as if it wasn’t clear already) that I won’t be developing Blam anymore. If anyone is interested in picking it up let me know. I’ve been really happy with using Google Reader since Herzi pointed me at it.
I do have some vague plans on hacking Blam into become just a client for Google Reader though but I’m not sure if I can be bothered. I’m currently trying to focus my hacking time into one project, Loudmouth.
For geeks with too many machines (exactly the people that use feed readers) it’s super nice to have a centralised feed reader like google or netvibes.
I’ve used blam for quite a while though. It was nice and simple. Thanks!
I fear I’ll need to make a similar announcement about Original
Sounds like me, Straw and Bloglines. Too bad, really, but I can hardly blame you. Maybe the Liferea developer(s?) are still sticking to their desktops…
Are we seeing the first signs of apps moving from the desktop to the web in the rss readers (and mail clients)?
Lame! I really liked Blam
I’ve been using blam a lot!
Althought I understand your reasons for stopping the development, I’d like to thank you for your great job from a french guy!
While I’ve used google reader and liked it, it does need a constant internet connection. This is not something that can be had in some areas (somehow I’ve come to regard network outages as normal). Blam is great for that. I guess I’ll have to start using liferea or hacking on blam.
Carlos, that’s very true and definitely a valid reason for having something more than just a google reader frontend (though could probably involve some cashing).
Let me know if you want to start hacking on Blam.
I think I could maintain it, with some effort. It could certainly help me to improve my coding skills. I looked at the source code and it doesn’t look insanely hard to understand. Although, I would some help to get started.
