Moved to Wordpress

After lingering in my todo list for quite some time I finally got around to the task of migrating my blog from Movable Type to Wordpress. I considered using Drupal since we are using it for other sites but after some consideration and looking at Wordpress I decided it was a better solution for my personal blog which will most likely not have a lot of non-blog content.

The process was pretty straight forward, I followed these instructions and I had it up and running in less than an hour. After some tweaking trying to get a working solution for URL redirects, I ended up just forwarding the top 10 incoming links. Hopefully I’ll get around to sort out the rest of the links soon.

So far I’m very impressed with Wordpress though I would like to see a way to install plugins and themes from inside the admin UI. The best would be to get a list of plugins to browse and just click install, second best would be the possibility of pointing to a local .zip and upload/unpack it from the admin UI without having to transfer it manually to the server and then log in and unpack it in the right place.

New Movable Type Theme

Upgraded to Movable Type 3.2 the other day and it came with a very nice plugin to select themes from an online theme repository directly from within the Web UI.

While the themes that are up yet is definitely OK I’ve been toying with the idea of remaking my site for some time. As a first step I ditched my old special tweaked themes and went with the default templates and a premade theme for now.

Now I just need to figure out how I want the blog to look…
