Scary reading
Found this story about getting arrested in the London subway when browsing through this mornings news feeds in Blam.
I find it really disturbing when war against terrorism has gone to the length of harassing your own citizens and also to assume everyone is guilty and treating them as such both before and after they’ve stated that the person didn’t have a bomb in his bag.
I mean, if they thought he had a bomb in a bag, why go ahead with a full blown search in his apartment when they figured he had no bomb, or anything else of interest?
they probably searched the appartement cause they hoped to find something to incriminate him with, and thus proof that their ‘overreaction’ was silly.
I say ‘overreaction’ because I can understand their fears…
soon in France (after december 2005) too. thanks to the all so mighty new laws.
Ha! the country of freedom and human rights…
it’s fears, but we are citizens ! not criminals.
no bombs in bags, so no fear.
This global “War on Terror” has turned into something scarier than any terrorist. Ben Franklin said something about those who would give up liberties for security deserve neither liberty nor security. Oh how true Ben. I myself would rather die from a blast while living in a truly free country then survive in a state where my every move is watched and suspect.
I agree. I can understand the first reaction (somewhat), but the rest is just over reacting. But that is not the part that scares me most.
It is the fact that the police can keep all sorts of data about an innocent person for as long as they want, without that person being able to do anything about it. I hope we can steer clear of that here in the Netherlands, but our past history of copying just about everything (bad) from England/America doesn’t give me much hope.
Well if the bomb’s not in his bag then it has to be in his apartment!
And they also need to put a roving tap his phone just in case he talks to any terrorists.
