Imendio Hackathon and Welcome Mitch.

First of all I’m very excited about welcoming Michael “Mitch” Natterer of The Gimp fame to join the crew at Imendio. This weekend we had a little hacker get-together at Richards place in Gothenburg. We decided to hack on a Quicksilver clone for GNOME. This is an application I’ve found very useful in Mac OSX and have ever since trying it out the first time wanted for GNOME.

I’m very happy with the results we where able to pull of after little more than two days of hacking. It’s already pretty useful for launching applications and we where able to add support for looking up evolution contacts, Firefox bookmarks and even recent files and files on the desktop.

The result GNOME Launch Box.

Some photos from the weekend will be up shortly.

Glade3 and third party catalogs

Hacked on Glade 3 today and made a good progress on support for third party catalogs. Currently you need to add all catalogs to an XML files called glade-palette.xml, this isn’t a very feasible solution for third party libraries shipping outside of Glade, preferrably this would involve all libraries above Gtk+.

I did a couple of things, first I changed so that it reads all catalog files instead of reading the palette file to know which catalogs are available. I also changed the format some to split up the defining of widgets and the grouping of widgets. So now it would be really simple to add support for defining your own groups, like a “My favorites”-tab with the widgets you mostly use.

Last I changed so that a catalog is only one file instead of previously one catalog file plus one file per widget that required something overridden.

Tired and Glade 3

I’m totally tired today due to lack of sleep last night. Spent the day today starting to look into Glade 3, it’s starting to get nice and I hope to soon be able to use it for my projects. Also played some with Gimp 2.2, great work everyone involved.

This weekend we are going to have an Imendio hacker get together in Gothenburg and hack on some fun project, more on that next week.
